The EvMed Review, Renewed!
A publication of the International Society for Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health
The Evolution and Medicine Review moved this week from WordPress to Substack, making it much easier to create, see, and share posts, and to subscribe. Please forward this email to friends and colleagues who may be interested!
As almost everyone on this list knows, the mission of the EvMedReview is to share information about events, publications, and commentaries of interest to those who are working to find ways that the basic science of evolutionary biology can increase the understanding, prevention, and treatment of diseases. Students are especially welcome.
If you receive this post directly, you are already subscribed to The EvMedReview because you previously subscribed to The EvMedReview or the ISEMPH Newsletter. On average there are 1-2 posts per week on the Review, with an unsubscribe button at the bottom of every email. You can also read posts in the substack app or on the website at https://EvMedReview.com.
The EvMedReview was started in 2008 with support from the Berlin Institute for Advanced Study to bring the world evolutionary medicine community together. It has succeeded. In 2013 Evolution Medicine and Public Health began publishing, in 2015 the International Society for Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health had its first meeting, and its 11th annual meeting will be this July in Kiel, Germany. The ISEMPH Newsletter took over some of the information sharing functions from The EvMedReview, but ISEMPH gratis memberships will soon be discontinued because of high costs. Most of the same content will now be shared on the EvMedReview. However, paying ISEMPH members continue to get many benefits including early access to registration, meeting discounts, voting rights, participation in committees, and access to the EvMedEd resources and the searchable database of people with similar interests across the world…to say nothing of the satisfaction of contributing to the growth of a new field that is improving human health. Fees are substantially reduced for members in countries where resources are scarce.
With all this in mind, here are some timely news items.
ISEMPH membership fees are 20% off this month if you use the code “EB2026” at checkout. Membership usually pays for itself if you come to a meeting, so join before you register.
Registration and abstract submission are now open for ISEMPH 2026 in Kiel, Germany, July 24-28.
Four keynote speakers have been announced
Trevor Graham – Institute of Cancer Research London, UK
Lynette Leidy Sievert – UMass Amherst, USA
Brendan Bohannan – Univ. of Oregon, USA
Marisa Azad – Univ. of Ottawa, Canada
Limited travel awards are available to selected students who submit abstracts in time.
